Recording the source
Each detail is recorded with its source, such as a document, correspondence or research finding. This allows the evidence behind a connection to be reviewed.
Checking the evidence
We look for independent supporting evidence when assessing a family connection. Conflicting records are kept with an explanation of the discrepancy and any further checks needed.
Distinguishing likely from confirmed
A probable connection is recorded as such. Further checks are needed before it can be treated as established. Where the finding suggests an entitlement to an estate, that position also requires confirmation.
Protecting what is held
